EASTERN ORCHESTRAL BOARD

The Eastern Orchestral Board is a unique and successful partnership of more than 60 local authorities in 12 counties of the Eastern and East Midlands regions - over a quarter of the area of England. It aims to help people of all ages and backgrounds experience and enjoy the many ways in which orchestras can bring live music to local communities.

Each year the Eastern Orchestral Board gives financial support to about 190 concerts by 45 orchestras in over 50 different venues and helps promoters with artistic advice, marketing and finding new audiences. We also sponsor a lively programme of practical community projects in which people work alongside professional composers and orchestral musicians, creating and performing music of their own. EOB encourages the performance of music by today's composers and helps to maintain special relationships between orchestras and local communities in the region.

For some time the Eastern Orchestral Board has had a Composer in Association, a position currently held by Robin Holloway, resulting in many performances of his wonderful orchestral music. Tunde Jegede was appointed as the first EOB Innovations Composer, and over two years, beginning in 1999, he will be working on projects with orchestras such as the Philharmonia, East of England Orchestra, London Mozart Players, the Britten Sinfonia and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
