EDITED HIGHLIGHTS FROM WORKSHOPS
| THE RESIDENCY was where participants from all of the preceding satelliteprojects came together with all of the members of SharpEdge and musicians from Club 21st Century. You could almost touch the excitement in the atmosphere and all of theparticipants demonstrated great mutual interest in eachother's work. At thesame time everyone remained focused on the individual tasks at hand. Each group was able to benefit from input from the additional professionalmusicians into the reworking of the pieces from their respective satelliteprojects. It was an inspiring weekend for all involved. Some of it is captured in this fouteen minute video clip. You can click here to play it or, alternatively, select shorter clips as you read through the rest of this page. | ||
| Each group was able to have an individual session with the entire Sharp Edgeensemble to arrange and rehearse their original pieces for the new line up.The hustle and bustle of people moving around with instruments, sounds coming fromevery room and young people grabbing every opportunity to watch, listen and talkto other musicians made for a busy and intensely creative atmosphere. The programme for the evening was to include some of Tunde's own work (and a piecefrom Cleveland Watkiss of Club 21st Century) as well as all of the work developedduring On The Edge. One of the questions prevailing was how this diverse range ofwork was all going to be woven together into a single coherent concert. | ||
![]() | Confidence was an issue raised by all of the participants throughout the project.Nothing demonstrated the development of this better than the sight and sound of ayoung musician performing an improvised solo. See for yourself on video.
| Improvisation was in fact at the heart of the workshop process. With participantsand leaders alike contributing ideas for the group to develop. This processcontinued with the adaptation of one of Tunde's pieces and a piece from Clevelandin a group consisting of the Club 21st century musicians and Paul & "Wooz" - beat-box artist and DJ from the St. Albans satellite project. See them at work here. | ||
