EDITED HIGHLIGHTS FROM WORKSHOPS
workshop3
WORKSHOP 3 has provided yet another opportunity to explore the possibilities of working with large ensembles on a range of contemporary genres. Almost all of this group are into what is commonly known as "Jazz Fusion" - mainly jazz funk. The piece available here, however, uses Tunde's kora and an electric violin as the basis for a piece generated in the best traditions of all forms of jazz - through improvisation.

Chris
Chris, 15, Guitarist:

"I liked that they got you to make up what you play yourself. They didn't say 'you play this, you play that.'"
Lucy

Lucy, 14, Saxophonist:

"I'd been to a workshop before and the people there were quite serious, so I thought all the people here were going to be serious but they weren't they wre really funny. They didn't pick on you and say "Lucy, give us an idea". You weren't put on the spot at all."
Richard
Richard, 17, Trombone & Chromaharp:

"I really liked the sessions before the concert. I used to be really nervous of playing in front of other people, but as we got into it I got used to it and didn't mind soloing and so on as much. I was really nervous when we were composing and they'd say throw in an idea, but I got the hang of it in the end."
