WORKSHOP 4 confirmed our expectations of diversity within the On The Edge experience. Bishops Stortford was the first project where women outnumbered young men - all of the women being woodwind players. The boys were one guitarist, one electric bassist and a vocalist. This group chose to weave all of their pieces into one arrangement or suite. You'll find most of it included in the video and audio clips here.

"I really thought it was going to be a load of sheet music and classical as well because it was with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. But it wasn't and I'm really glad because we enjoyed it so much."
|
|
"It was quite scary at first because we haven't really been put on the spot before, improvising and stuff like that. But they give you the basic chord or whatever and you make a rhythm or melody up from there."

"The rhythms are not rhythms we read at school. It's because the people that are
leading it [the workshop] have got so much experience in other fields and we draw
on their experience.
It does give us inspiration, because we all do orchestra at school and we can take stuff from here and apply it. After the first night we'd all gotten toghether, we were on a real high. I thought 'wow, I could do this for a living'." |
